Bullhorn
Go HWS Mobile
Healthtrust, a subsidiary of HCA Healthcare, USA’s largest health system, and one of Bullhorns biggest customers, was using their eRecruit application to manage the recruitment of ‘per diem’ jobs for registered nurses. Per diem employees work on an as-needed basis, acting as freelancers who pick their own shifts as they go. Usually this goes through an Healthtrust employee who helps them find and apply jobs, and provide the requirements to the nurses. In order to cut out the middleman, Healthtrust was interested in providing a solution that would directly connect nurses with opportunities, and verify their eligibility for the job.
Role and process
At the time I was the main UX designer working on this project. I’ve collaborated a lot with the product manager and owner at the time to define the scope of the project, and set up discovery calls with customers. I came to my proposal through researching competitors and similar solutions from other industries, and validated designs in various stages with end users.
Solution
The final solution is a mobile application designed specifically with per diem and traveling nurses in mind. Since in the USA nurses could travel all over the country to work at hospitals and other medical sites in small towns, the mobile aspect was very important.
In the app a nurse is able to set up their profile including their medical credentials, i.e. licenses, certificates, and anything else that would make them eligible for a job. Through the use of filters, nurses can define their job criteria and where they would like to look for work.
From the job detail page, nurses can then gather all the information needed for the respective shift; what time do they start, is it an overnight shift, how does it fit within their schedule, where should they report. Directly from the detail page they can then apply for the job, without the need for contacting someone at Healthtrust.
Reception
During the user test research sessions I’ve received a lot of praise for the work already. What I still remember to this day was an elderly research participant, who wasn’t very tech savvy; he barely got Zoom to work on his phone and didn’t screen share throughout the whole session. Yet he mentioned how user friendly the app was that we designed for people like him.
Unfortunately I left Bullhorn before development of the app (HWS Go) was finished, so I have no concrete results of how it has affected the business, but I do know that it has been downloaded over 5000 times on Google Play and received over 1500 positive reviews on the Apple store.
